Alicia Machado started her journey at an early age, in her native Venezuela, as a kids musical theater artist. However, it would be her crowning as Miss Universe 1996 what launched her international career.
In 1997, Alicia starred in Samantha, one of the most successful productions of Venevisión, and a role that positioned her among the most important melodramatic actors in Latino America. To Samantha, many other soap operas and TV series followed: Infierno en el Paraíso, Estamos Unidos, Mambo y Canela, El Pantera, Simuladores, Hasta que el Dinero nos Separe, Una Familia con Suerte, La Madame, Atrévete a Soñar, Amor sin Maquillaje, and most recently, Lo Imperdonable.
In the big screen, Alicia starred in I Love Miami (2005), The History of Juan Diego (2013), Cansada de Besar Sapos, Disney (2008), and Juan el Más Amado (2016).
In theatrical productions, the popular artist has been part of the cast of Un Amante a la Medida, Alacranes, Mi Amiga la Gorda, and the successful Broadway musicals Mame and Hairspray, and the prestigious Los Monólogos de la Vagina from Eve Ensler.
In the musical scene, Alicia was nominated for a Grammy and a Billboard Award for her first album, ALICIA MACHADO. As an entrepreneur, Machado launched her own beauty and fashion product line, reaching excellent sales in US and Mexico.
As a television personality, Alicia has participated in numerous international shows as a host, jury, and even as a contestant, specially on the highest rated shows of UNIVISION NETWORK: PREMIOS JUVENTUD, PREMIOS LO NUESTRO, LATIN GRAMMY AWARDS, NUESTRA BELLEZA LATINA, CANTANDO POR UN SUEÑO, and the popular MIRA QUIEN BAILA, in which Alicia was named “sentimental winner” by the audience.
After 20 years of winning the Miss Universe contest, Alicia has appeared in more than 100 international magazine covers, as VOGUE, VANITY FAIR, ELLE, HOLA, PEOPLE, and COSMOPOLITAN.
For her non stop acting career, Alicia has been received important international awards: ACE Award (New York) for her leading role in Samantha; MIDIA Award (Spain) for best new actress; Águila de Oro (Venezuela) for the main role Infierno en el Paraíso. Alicia also was part of the cast on several EMMY winning TV series, as “Estamos Unidos” and “Simuladores”, from Sony, and “El Pantera” from Televisa.
As a model and Latino celebrity, Alicia’s image has appeared in more than 35 international ad campaigns, as Budweiser, Danone Light, Kellogs, McDonalds, Pantene, and Snapple.
Currently, Alicia lives in Hollywood, where she is working in two new English language productions. Alicia has also become a very acclaimed personality in most of the Premiers of the main Studios.
In the community, Alicia works with different causes close to her heart, like PADRES CONTRA EL CANCER, PEOPLE FOR THE AMERICAN WAY, and MAMIS SOLAS (her own non profit organization dedicated to single moms). And she is committed to promote the Latino Vote, along with other Hispanic leaders, as Dolores Huerta.
No doubt that, the most popular Miss Universe on history has come a long way, and has arrived to Hollywood with a solid career to share, and with the support of her millions of fans and followers on social media.
